Circuit Rider Russell D. Lowther

This story and photos are being shared from a Lifetime member, Paula McGrew. Paula has ties to the Hacker Creek Area with the surname Lowther.
Russell D. Lowther
Today (Jan. 25) is the 114th anniversary of the birth of one of the great people in my life — Grandpa Russell. He taught creativity, faith, humor, and the value of little things as well as big things in life. Here are just a couple of MANY samples. He was one of the last Circuit Riders - in Nicholas County, WV where his Model T couldn’t always make it through, so he rode horses and donkeys and whatever he had access to. He did oil paintings, carvings, “critters” made from nuts and other materials at hand, and even wrote a book about his experiences. Taking some time today to celebrate him and all of these reminders that he left for us. Especially enjoying the Federalist Eagle that he carved that reminds us of Freedom - Power - Courage - and Vision. It also reminds me of one of my favorite hymns: “On Eagle’s Wings”.
Beautiful tribute shared from Life Time member Paula McGrew
