Who Remembers….

The Weston Democrat

March 17, 1933

When the McDermott Brothers operated a barber shop in a room at a location just south of Hope Gas company’s office?

These young men, John and Thomas McDermott, were the first to install bath tubs in a barber shop in Weston. A newspaper clipping of October, 1896, notes that “McDermott Brothers’ barber shop is now one of the cosiest places in the town. They have placed four chairs in their new quarters which are presided over by John and Thomas McDermott. Thomas Danser, and that “French” gentleman of color whom everybody knows—”Melvino de Costio.” Two bath rooms have been fitted up, where one can get a hot or cold bath at any time—-a convenience by the way, that will be appreciated by many of us who have no bath room attachment to our homes.”

All those mentioned above have been dead many years.
