Lake Riley
Lake Riley
A lady came to the library trying to find info on the name Riley for which the Kraus family named Lake Riley.
Lake Riley at one time was the place to be in Lewis County. It is interesting how the Lake was named Riley. He was an orphan that the Kraus raised and then he was killed early in WWII, so to honor him they named it Lake Riley. Many people of Lewis county knew who the Kraus family was but did not know where the Riley name came in.
The photo comes from the Lewis County WWII military book we have in the library. He was in the Marines, Jan. 6, 1942 and killed in action Sept. 14 in the Pacific. He was the son of the late James and Dora Rilely: made his home with the Krauses.
